Rev. Ward “Skip” Cornett III, Interim Pastor
Rev. Ward Cornett III aka “Skip” became interim pastor at St. Mark’s in October of 2011, shortly after retiring from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Bexley where he served for 18 years as Director of Continuing Education and Life Long learning, and adjunct faculty teaching courses on Jewish – Christian relations and on the church and public policy advocacy.
Prior to his service at Trinity, Pastor Skip has led congregations in southwest Michigan, Pittsburgh, PA, the Metro Washington, D.C. area, and Columbus. He has served a total of 11 congregations as Interim Pastor over his 32 yrs of ordained ministry.
Pastor Skip became involved in Christian-Jewish relations in Central Ohio while at Trinity and continues to serve as the seminary’s liaison to the Jewish community. He also serves on the ELCA’s consultative panel on Lutheran – Jewish relations, a committee that functions directly out of the ELCA national bishop’s office. He has also taken a keen interest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over the years and is currently active as the Ohio coordinator for Churches for Middle East Peace.
A graduate of Marshall University, Pastor Skip earned his Masters of Divinity at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, a Master’s of Sacred Theology in Church and Society at Trinity, and in 2008 he completed an MA Degree in political science at Virginia Tech.
